DIFFERENT ANGLE

12-2-18

What I understood

To impart pure and complete knowledge teacher (knowledge provider) and student (knowledge seeker) should have twin relation. First is Friendship. Friendship should be initiated on the initiative of the knowledge provider. Second is Devotion-ship. Devotion should flow from the student -the seeker. If vice versa, knowledge transfer will fail or will be incomplete.

What I understood

Advisor remembers what he taught however learner forgets many times. If he remembers the taught lessons he also becomes advisor to another one. Those who forget remain just Arjuna (here confused). Only the God has infinite non- perishable memory.

 What I understood

YOGI- An acquirer of benefiting habits and adding them in him very precisely.

 SANYAS-  Means Renunciation.

Conclusion: Renunciation does not mean ‘no more difficulty’; ‘may be no or least responsibility’. Difficulty cannot be RENUNCIATED as was my misconception. Even if I live in remote area, in compete isolation, difficulty will find me and test me, now and then, till I live.

FIGHT

6          come out wiser

Sometimes we feel like fighting with someone who is very close to us. It is not that we hate them. They just do not appear judicious. We feel hurt. How can they do so? The question keeps on nagging us. We should then fight. There is no need to repress it. We should fight it out. There is no need to just worry or keep anxiety for long.  Fighting is still KARMA. Worry or anxiety is not KARMA. They(worry, anxiety) are killers. They kill the very person who holds them.

If we feel that the fight is the last option then we should go into it. But here too we should fight whole-heartedly and headlong so that whatsoever happens should help us.

If it was wrong to fight, then we will come out of it wiser. If it was right to fight, then we will come out of it still wiser. So in the end the incidence is going to make us wiser.

We have to keep our mind open. The fight will give us chance to learn something. We will not automatically become wiser after the fight. We have to analyze and differentiate the outcome of fight. If we do not learn anything from the fight then we should re-analyze the fight. There is a lesson; hidden, waiting to improve us from within.

Tendency to cling to old happiness

8                  Sad

When we lose something or someone we become sad. The degree of sadness may differ but we feel sad. Some time we feel so much sad that we do not feel like talking. We look for a place which is lonely. The pain is so much that it shatters us from within.

When we are sad, really sad as if we have sunk into sadness, our tears roll out. We feel robbed. We feel collapsed. There is complete calm, quietness and silence in us.

Such Sadness brings depth in us. Once the period of sadness is over we are no more the same. We are different. The sadness has added some more roots in us. More roots mean more growth in our maturity level. We find a new height of maturity in us.

Sadness is needed; Sadness is must for every one of us, though it is highly disliked. Sadness is needed when God decides to bring new happiness to us through different route. We have a tendency to cling to old happiness, old comfort or old relations. But God hates old. HE keeps on changing this world to make it new every time. It hurts now but we have to bear the pain, there is no choice. We have to bear this pain like a mother bears at the time of birth of a child. Later on she is rewarded with a new life. After sadness, there is a different joy; A new joy.

If sadness is happening, and if we accept it rather than frustrating then the sadness becomes like a dark night. The deeper the sadness is, the darker the night appears. Dark nights have very beautiful stars. We have to look at the darkness; we also have to find where the stars are. In sadness we tend to look to downwards. It is fine if we remain in that sadness for a while. Pain has happened. Next is gain.

We, just, have to be a silent observer. We have to watch how sadness is exploring us and how sadness is converting us.

Let us separate for a while

7                  Space

There is a time when we want to go away from someone who gets much respect and love from us. That person may be anyone a beloved or life partner or best friend or a role model or anyone who brought smoothness in our life.

It was fine unto now, now a distance is soothing then the closeness. We wanted that closeness. We were desperate for that closeness. Now we need some space. A guilt feeling, however, bothers all the time.

There is no ‘guilt felling’ required. There is no need to feel such guilt. It is perfectly fine to have some space. Sometimes we need our own space.

To be near sometimes becomes a heavy thing. So we should be near only when we want to be, otherwise it is better to go away and have some space.

Everyone should have his own space. It is in our space, we have born and grew. We need our space to come back to us. In closeness (with anyone), we tend to lose our identity. To regain our self we need the space.

No closeness is permanent. But our space is permanent. Our space is essential for our life. Closeness happens in no man’s land. Closeness happens in different space. It is nether our space nor of our beloved’s. Sooner or later we have to come back to our home. We cannot live in other’s home for life.

Earlier there was hunger for closeness. The need at that time for closeness was very desperate. Once hunger has been satisfied, there is no appetite left for closeness. We start feeling hungry for space again. Soon we will be hungry again for closeness then for space again. Actually this is the basic characteristic (nature) of hunger. It comes again and again.
So there is no need to feel guilty if we are feeling a need for some space in any close relation.

Long time ago a teacher and his student were traveling across a vast land. They were invited by the king of that state for a certain ceremony. The land was very fertile. Lot of big trees had grown here and there. It was the first visit for the student through that land. His curious eyes were looking everywhere. He was troubling with a question. He asked his teacher,” sir, I have noticed an interesting thing. Plants which are under the big tree have not grown much and are not looking strong. But plants which are far from the tree have grown much and are looking stronger. Why is this?”

The teacher replied.
It is a universal law. To grow we need space. Big tree needs big space. Its big roots needs more earth to spread and to collect nutrition from the soil. It needs more air and more sunlight for its growth. So plants under them do not get space to expand or required amount of air or sunlight. This way they remain under develop. On the contrary plants away from big plants get sufficient earth, air and sunlight. So they grew much and they grew faster.

The same principle applies on the human being. If we remain under the shadow of someone for long, our growth is affected. Our growth is limited.  So every human should have his own space his own domain also.  We should remain in touch with this space for ever otherwise we will lose our identity. And, losing our own identity is another kind of death.

WELL AND WILL

8              well and will

Once, Lord Krishna and parth Arjuna were passing through a dense forest. It was dusk time and both of them were feeling tired and hungry. To deflect his attention Arjuna asked a simple question from Lord Krishna,

“Why it happens that a poor man gets more and frequent troubles and torture from the hand of destiny than a rich man?”

Lord Krishna smiled in his own style but did not answer the question immediately, rather said to Arjuna,

“Parth, we are feeling tired and hungry. It is getting late as well. It looks we have to stay here for night. This place seems perfect. Let us do some cooking. I go and collect some dry wood for hearth; you go and collect some bricks to make a hearth.”

Arjuna bowed his head and set out to find suitable bricks, wondering, where he would find bricks in the midst of a forest. Luckily, after a while he reached to a place where he noticed two wells side by side. Walls of one well looked strong as if newly made, whereas walls of other well were in ruined from. He reached to the ruined well, picked some bricks and came back.

While cooking Lord Krishna asked Arjuna,
“ Parth, how did you get these bricks?”

Arjuna told him about two wells.

Lord Krishna asked him again,
“Why he did not pick bricks from strong well and why did he pick bricks from the ruined well. Have you not ruined more the already ruined well?”

Arjuna felt light struck. He realized that Lord Krishna is trying to answer his question   “Why it happens that a poor man gets more and frequent troubles and torture from the hand of destiny than a rich man?” in his own style.

Arjuna humbly replied, “My lord, I thought, why to deface a good and strong well. I further thought it is better to pick bricks from already ruined well.”

Lord Krishna smiled and said that, this is the answer to your question which you had asked me. Both strong and ruined wells had the threat, that, their bricks might be taken away. However the stronger one survived the threat. The threat could not do any harm to that. The weak well had to bear the brunt. It will have to face the brunt again and again and again.

Lord Krishna said,
”Parth, those wells over there represents will power of human. Those having strong will power survive the threat. Threats (troubles) come. They will come again; they will come to a person having strong will power and also to a person having weak will power. But, person, having weaker will power will be hurt again, again and again as his weak will power makes him vulnerable. It is not always the destiny behind our troubles. Some times our approach is the reason for continue incoming of troubles. A rich man having weak will power may become poor, a poor having strong will power can become rich.

Ripple by Ripple

5          Ripple by Ripple

It is our life and it is tremendously precious. We are the real assets of us. Its value should grow. And nobody can do anything unless we decide to do something with our being, our future. Only our decision is decisive.

There are many people whom we would like to change and regulate and improve. This is very desirable. However, this is very difficult also.

We can tell people they are wrong and they need to be changed for their benefits. We may be absolutely right but they will not take it as a favor. They will take it as a direct blow at their intelligence, judgment, pride and self-respect. They may argue but they will never want to bring change in themselves. We may try to persuade them with all logic but we will not be able to alter their opinions. We have actually hurt their feelings. They may even start telling our faults to us. They may say that we need to be changed first.

Actually they are right. We cannot change every one around us. But we can change our self much easily and we should.

Even from a purely selfish standpoint, it is a lot more profitable than trying to improve others.

Confucius (a Chinese philosopher) had understood this fact many centuries ago. He suggested, "Don't complain about the dust on your neighbor's roof when your own doorstep is unclean."

When things go wrong we often blame others. We blame them for the loss.  If there is nobody to blame we start blaming Luck or the God. We have played this trick for a long time. And because of this trick, we have not grown; and have not become mature in certain areas of life.

The fact is that, we should first find fault within us. We have to do some introspection. Even if we are 100% sure we are right still we have to introspect. This is the challenge. What else we could have done? What we won’t do next time. What we should do next time.

There is nobody who is looking after us. We have to look after our self. There is nobody to whom we can say, ’You are responsible.’ All responsibility is ours. If we become wastage, it is because of us. If we go into hell, it is because of us. If we reach to heaven, it is because of us. If this is the attitude then we will definitely find areas where we can improve and thus our future success will improve.

This attitude will make us mature. We will take our life into our own hands.

Once we have brought a change in us we have to nurture it carefully. We have to make it our habit. Merely bringing the change is not enough. It can be lost, so we have to go on supporting it, helping it. We should never feel satisfied, because all that can be gained can be lost.

The old habits are great and deep-rooted; we have to make new changes as habit. The truth is, change the habits and be successful.

The past habits are almost like an ocean. The new change that has arisen is such a small wave, just a ripple. The ocean can drown it. So we have to fight for it so that it is not drowned.

Then by bringing other small changes in us we add more ripples. All ripples become so big that by and by the old ocean is drowned and a new fresh ocean appears.

Changing ripple by ripple is possible only by a special art. This art is rare. This art is known as "Self Criticism". Self Criticism is the best criticism. Moreover, Self Criticism is affordable.

There was popular king, who was loved by his courtiers as well as by his people. Everyone wanted that a portrait of the king should be made and displayed in the court of the kingdom. The King surrendered to the wish of his people and gave his consent.

A search was made to find the best painter. The search ended in a village. There lived a painter who was crazy but a marvelous painter. He was poor but used to remain always happy. He would make paintings of Gods and Goddess having background full of natural scene. Characters in his painting used to appear as if real, as if they would start talking.

Initially, he refused the offer to make the painting of the king. Later he agreed, when he was promised that the temple of the village will be renovated and expenses will be paid by the government. Further, the painter will be rewarded 11,000 gold coins if the painting is appreciated by all.

The painter took one year to complete the painting. Meanwhile, the village temple was renovated as per the promise. When the painting was displayed in the court of the king, everyone including king and courtiers were awestruck and spell bound. Everyone was praising the skill of the painter. Experts were also there to find faults in the painting. They declared the painting as flawless. King announced that the painter be given 11,000 gold coin.

Instead of receiving reward, the painter moved towards his painting and tore it off. People started shouting, calling him mad. King angrily asked him the reason of his daring act. The painter innocently replied, "my lord there were some flaws in the painting which I could not notice before. But now when I saw the painting here, I noticed those flaws".

King said, “We, including expert, did not see any flaw. We were satisfied. You should have taken your reward and leave the painting to be displayed in the court.”

The painter replied, “My Lord please pardon my daring but I had seen those flaws and being a true artist I cannot accept the reward for a faulty piece of creation. My lord I am a critic to my own art. Sooner or later you and other might have noticed those flaws. My lord give me time, I will come back with improved painting."

The painter came back next year and displayed his new painting. Everyone noticed that the new version of the painting was much better than the old version which he had torn off. He was praised by everyone again. King offered him 21,000 gold coins instead of 11,000.

When the painter asked the reason for the increment in the reward money, the king replied, “Because you are a self critic. Those who find fault with themselves are rare breed, so you deserve increased reward because you have placed yourself above the appreciation and the criticism of others and I guess this is the secret of your lasting happiness.”

Let it go or not

4        Let it go or not

When we look at our past life it appears very short. It also reminds us the opportunities which we have missed. When we actually live the life, it appears long. We often postpone the demand of heart to meet the demand of mind. Heart demands love and care where as mind demands new achievements.  It is in our nature that we do not care, if, something appears to be more. But we care much, if, it is not much.

Whole life we worry about future. We try to predict and protect future. If future looks certain we do not worry about this moment: We let it go casually. We assume that this moment of happiness will come again. We postpone our enjoyment for next time. But if future looks uncertain and we know that this is the last chance to enjoy, we wish this moment of happiness should spread to whole of our life. We try to enjoy every grain of that moment. we are afraid that this moment is going. A fear grips us. We want to cling to that moment.

Whatever we are having is not going to be with us forever. Even we are not here on this earth forever. Beautiful moments which GOD has offered to us are chain reaction of many other moments. This may not happen again. Next time we will not see the same combination or color or texture of such moment. We should allow that moment to make us happy. We should surrender our self to that moment of pleasure. Moments of troubles are problems of mind. Mind is smarter than we believe. It will take care when those moments come. Heart is innocent. Heart is child like. Heart needs caring. The best care of heart is to allow it to enjoy the moment of joy. This will refresh the heart. A refreshed heart will strengthen the mind as well as body. This mind will be more prepared to face the coming challenges.  That is why some of the religious teachers preached and advocated dancing and singing.

In the courtyard of a temple a learned man was telling stories of the Lord Krishna. He was narrating every details of a dancing act of Lord Krishna with many Gopies (female devotees) in Vanshivat (Virndavan). There were many listeners. Most of them were women.

A young woman asked a question from the learned man. How can dancing of lord Krishna with so many women be considered a religious act? It is a wrong motivation to some of the modern boys. They tease us. When we object, they claim that it is what even Lord Krishna did.

The learned man heard the question, pondered a few seconds and then said. Teasing a woman is a serious offence. It is happening in every country. It is happening ever since humanity came into being. It is conducted by men of every religion. Now, the boys who trouble you have nothing to do with Lord Krishna. They are using his name just as an excuse. They like teasing a woman so they are doing it. They will find some other excuse to justify their wrong doing. The fact is they are doing it because they are not well nurtured. Not every male is teasing women. It is because some are decently cultured but some are not; unfortunately.

Now “How can dancing of lord Krishna with so many women be considered a religious act?”

He said. The first and foremost purpose of the religion is to bring happiness in the life of every person till he lives on this earth.
Lord Krishna came to this earth as a human to do some great job. He knew it. He was to live a complete life like every human being. Living a complete life is not easy. One has to face so many tensions and so many small or big challenges. Lord Krishna was a very good flute player. To relax he would often play flute at a lonely place. This way he would enjoy some of the moments of mortal life. He would often lost in playing music. In such a situation his eyes remained closed. It was like he was doing musical meditation. The musical notes which he used to play were of divine; never heard before or after Him. He even would not know that his music had gathered Gopies around and had infatuated them to dance. It was a natural dance, a very spontaneous act from the Gopies. They were not applying any force. Not a single dancing step was planned. Dance was just happening. Like our breathing which just happens. We do not breathe. It just happens. Lord Krishna standing in middle, playing flute, was enjoying his own music. Gopies dancing around him were enjoying their own dance. They were also lost, not knowing what was happening. Lord Krishna was not there to enjoy so many Gopies around. Similarly Gopies were not there to enjoy the Lord Krishna. Both of them were enjoying their different enjoyment. The Lord was enjoying music. Gopies were enjoying music as well as the natural dance which their body was reflecting. No one was touching any one. There was no need to touch any one. Those were the moments of true happiness and they were not missing it.

It was truly a religious act, said the learned man to the woman, because it purified the every soul present there and because it brought true happiness to them.

It was a teaching nor by words but by action. Lord Krishna was teaching us how to enjoy our life moment by moment. Neither he was playing such music for ever nor were Gopies dancing for whole life. They had other task as well.

Later when lord spread message of GITA he did his best. Future generation is reaping the benefits of it. He would not be able to do it if he would have missed those moments. He would then be a frustrated person. A frustrated person cannot teach GITA.
